To put this into action, I recently joined 40+ Lockton Companies Associates in climbing 94 flights of stairs for the #HustleUpTheHancock (plus a happy hour after). What I find is, when I'm purposeful and make time for connection - with family, friends, my community, and my colleagues - I feel better. I've been thinking about connection a lot lately as the weight of the pandemic, the responsibilities of parenting a young family, and an endless to do list have dampened my energy and left me feeling like something is missing. Yet I still don't see us stressing the importance of recreating purposeful connection in our daily work and life. We know that being isolated during a global pandemic took a toll on everyone. We have to change the narrative about single parents. * And sometimes it sounds better to have a partner, as being a single parent can look pretty scary. * Or because they are just paralyzed, not wanting to step into the unknown. * A lot of people never leave their abusive relationship because they are scared of ending up penniless and alone. And many stay stuck in really hard situations. And I am happy, peaceful, and more and more confident in myself.īUT since leaving my relationship 10 years ago, I’m shocked by how many other people tell me they have similar stories. We’ve grown so much as a family and I’ve changed as a person since leaving that relationship. I've been the one running carpool, helping with homework, teaching my kids to drive, helping them choose their future directions. Since then, I’ve parented my 3 children on my own. I found the support and courage to leave that relationship 10 years ago. ![]() The trauma, shame, and isolation that can come with that abuse slowly tore away my sense of self and damaged the family I was trying to protect. Every day I faced intimidation and abuse. It may have looked good from the outside - but on the inside, our home was a different story. We owned a house, planned for the future, and had a lot going on. I was busy parenting my kids and helping my partner to run a business.
